Magdalena Krukowska’s 52 min. documentary (audio in FR/EN, subtitles in English) on the abuses committed by the Belgian company SIAT in West Africa (Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire), will be shown for the first time in Brussels. Magdalena Krukowska will be present at the event and take part in the debate after the screening.
Land cultivated by local farmers has been taken over by the Belgian company SIAT to establish large rubber and palm oil plantations, with the complicity of the local governments. These cases illustrate the large-scale land transactions in Africa, which cover more than 5 million hectares.
The screening will be followed by a debate on corporate due diligence and the United Nations negotiations in Geneva on a legally binding instrument on business and human rights.
